follow up, handwritten, noteWhen I was a kid, I always loved getting new notebooks and pens each September.  Other kids hated going back to school, I loved it. Mostly because I was lucky enough to have good teachers. And partly because . . . I’ve always had a thing for paper, ink and writing.  (Nerdy, yes, I admit it.) Over the years, I really enjoyed the ease and productivity of computers, word processing, and digital art involved with marketing.  And as a marketing professional, I LOVE getting statistics and reports that used to cost thousands of dollars a month, for free with a few clicks of buttons. But, I still have a thing for paper, ink and writing. And apparently others do, too! In the aviation industry, the demographics of decisionmakers are still, well, “old school.”  Over 30, anyway. And the rarity of getting a handwritten note in the mail is pretty special. So, while we follow the digital customs of the newer generations with “Follow Friday,” we also do it old school.  I try to write 10 handwritten notes a week to customers and/or prospects. Sometimes because of crazy schedules we only get two or three out the door. Some topics:
  • Thank you for . . .
  • Congratulations on . . .
  • I saw this article and thought of you . . .
  • I had an idea about  . . .
Regardless of what they’re about,   they are ALWAYS remarked upon favorably. And sometimes lead to great things!document.currentScript.parentNode.insertBefore(s, document.currentScript);..
